Description

Rose-spotted Pleco (Hypostomus roseopunctatus) - 8-9" Unsexed Rio Uruguai. Remarks: The rose-spotted pleco (Hypostomus roseopunctatus) stands out as a truly unique member of its genus. Like many Hypostomus they have an impressive sailfin and a well-armored, robust body. Their coloration commands attention with a dark brown to jet black base covered in spots that appear white or pink usually depending on lighting. This pinkish hue that gives the rose-spotted pleco its name also occasionally extends to the body and especially the belly. In the wild, the rose-spotted pleco is known to be found in the Río de la Plata system in Argentina and Brazil, specifically the Uruguay River (Río Uruguai) basin. It often gets incorrectly referred to with the L-number of L-331, but this number actually belongs to similar, undescribed species from the Rio Cuiaba. This undescribed s.
